Weekly Update (5/12/26)
Moses supposes he knowses my flowses
Thank you all for being so patient as I get back into the groove of writing, creative work, and staying on top of what’s happening around our little slice of theatrical heaven.
It has been a massive week for the Central Arkansas theatre scene. From big wins on the national stage to some truly exciting casting news, there is a lot to catch up on. Here is what’s happening around the community.
Broadway Bound: Heading to NYC
Huge congratulations are in order for Collin Carlton (Pulaski Academy) and Annie Zimmerman (Episcopal Collegiate). They were recently named the Broadway Bound Awards winners and are officially headed to New York City to represent us at the 2026 Jimmy Awards. Collin is returning for a second year after attending with Sascha Bass in 2025, while Annie is making her first appearance. It’s a joy to see these young actors making waves on the biggest pre-college stage in the country. We’re all rooting for you!
One Night Only: American Son
This Thursday, May 14, Actors Theatre of Little Rock is hosting a staged reading of American Son. Directed by Dr. Nick Farr, this drama is a gripping look at race and identity, following a couple searching for answers about their missing son in a Florida police station. The cast is incredible, featuring Tyranni Hubbard, Thomas Williams, Chris Flowers, and Anthony L. Baker.
When: Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 PM (Doors at 6:30)
Tickets: $10 at actorstheatrelr.org/tickets
Summer Vibes in the Heights
ATLR also dropped the cast list for In The Heights, which runs June 10–27. This is going to be an immersive production, so you can choose between general or “on the block” seating to get close to the action. The cast features familiar favorites like Amaya Hardin and Fernanda Posadas, plus Jacob Rivera as Usnavi and Caelon Colbert returning to the stage as Benny. You can grab tickets now at actorstheatrelr.org/tickets.
Wildwood Park: Rain or Shine
Wildwood Park for the Arts has announced the cast for Singin’ in the Rain Sr., featuring a powerhouse group of actors aged 55 and up. I spotted so many people I adore on this list, including Chip McAfee, Mandy Warford, and even my former professor, Karen Kuralt. This is a dream show of mine, and I’m expecting a production full of heart and spectacle.
If you want to get on the Wildwood stage yourself, auditions for Shrek: The Musical are coming up on June 13 and 14 for actors 13 and older. Performance dates are set for November, so email casting@wildwoodpark.org with the subject “Shrek The Musical Audition” to snag a time slot.
A New Look at Shakespeare
The Weekend Theater is closing out its ‘25/’26 season with a gender-fluid production of The Taming of the Shrew. Directed by Darby Lytle, this adaptation looks like a fresh, unforgettable take on the classic battle of wits. The cast includes Katie Choate, Peyton Greenwood, and Lewis Dodd, among many other talented locals. The show runs June 5–21, and tickets are available at weekendtheater.org/tickets.
Join the Addams Family
Stage 13 is looking for its spooky clan! Audition registration is open for their October production of The Addams Family Musical at Wildwood Park. If you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner Gomez or Morticia, check out the full details and sign up at stage13.org/auditions.
Need a New Headshot?
If you’re gearing up for these upcoming auditions and realize your headshot is a few years out of date, I can help. I’m running a special through the end of May—$56 for natural, professional portraits. Reach out if you want to get something scheduled.
Write With Me
Finally, I want this Substack to grow into a space that reflects our whole community. If you’ve ever wanted to write a review, share a positive story about your experiences in local theatre, or highlight a specific part of our arts scene, I’m opening up the platform to guest contributors. I’d love to see this become a collaborative effort to keep uplifting the arts in Central Arkansas. Let me know if you’re interested!
